Tour of Savannah

With many walking/hiking/biking miles put on our weary bodies, when we arrived in Savannah, which was the last leg of the trip, we decided a trolley tour as opposed to a walking tour of the city was in order … the heat and humidity really had not relented at all.  This was our first look at Gertrude as we stepped onto the trolley tour bus. Unaware at this point that she was our guide, but because of her attire, I asked if I could take her picture.  Gertrude proved to be our tour guide and got her “second wind” and gave us what I would say might possibly have been the best tour in all of Savannah. She was a spicy southern belle that both entertained and captivated all those of us on board her trolley, regaling us with her animated tales and gossip of this city in years gone by.   It was an interactive tour that saw different actors, depicting historical characters from Savannah’s early days, coming onboard the trolley at different locations to tell their own interesting st...

The Family

After 4 days at the cottage we drove to Greenville, SC, which has been home to Hilda and Dow for many years prior to moving to Georgia, and where they still keep a pied a terre to accommodate their very busy lifestyle. With kids and business and friends still in Greenville, it makes for a lot of travelling back and forth.  Jenny and Dan generously gave us their home in Greenville for that first night, as they were holidaying on Dewee’s Island that week.  Dow joined us in Greenville the next morning for breakfast at The Flying Biscuit Greenville is also home to Hilda’s daughter Kate and her husband Dante, so we stopped off for a short visit to meet them and for Hilda to get some gramma hugs in with 4-month old River, their son, and Hilda’s most recent addition to her gaggle of grandchildren!  Amara - Jenny and Dan’s oldest daughter  Grandma, Amara, Ella (Amara’s sister) Dan In Charleston, a few days later, we were well-received by and got to meet Andrew, Hilda’s oldes...

We were generously given these first class (free) accommodations in Charleston by Hilda’s son-in-law, Dan’s stepmom, Cindy. How nice to come back to this lovely condo/casa that had all the amenities we could ask for, for the few days we spent touring the city.  Snorting Beer is a thing in Georgia … didja know? Flying high Martinis, gin & tonic, wine, mimosas …  we drank  had it all  Outdoor art at it’s finest Our driver/hostess conked out Another favourite photo from the trip  Just one of many beautiful doors that opened to the historical homes in Charleston Carolopolis …  Bev’s view from the airplane  She was the Hostess with the Mostess and a Chauffeur Extraordinaire, driving miles to make this trip happen for us. Thank you so much Hilda! FRIENDS FOR LIFE
