Dewee’s Island

Boarding the ferry to Dewee’s Island where we enjoyed a little piece of the ocean and an afternoon in the sun
Hilda still managed to keep in touch with
her outside world despite being an attentive hostess. My husband wondered whether I was coming back or not … so little was I in touch with my outside world.  I try to disconnect when I’m on holidays.
The three amigos

It was a grand warm welcome to Dewee’s Island as Hilda’s son-in-law Dan arrived with his girls Amara and Ella in a golf cart to give us a tour of the island and transport us to the lovely cottage they had for the week.
Amara was not letting go of her grandma!
Hold on tight gramma!
Hilda walking here with little Ella
We were mesmerized by the beachfront … it looked like a hurricane or two had come through …
trees strewn about like toothpicks, but sand as fine as it comes
Da plane boss, da plane …
It felt like a deserted island
and our own little a piece of paradise.
And we had to share it with but a few others that afternoon.
“It doesn’t get much better than this”
crossed my lips a few times that day
Dan and Jenny had generously brought along some cool beverages to “wet our whistles” in the hot sun
Self-deprecating I may have been accused of being over my lifetime … but I was no FOOL that day.
I knew that accepting a hat, no matter what the logo, was going to be a smart thing on that hot day of fun in the sun, sand  and water!
I’ve also been known to say that you can’t take a bad picture of my face on a beach…
because I’m always smiling.
Our tour guide/hostess/chauffeur also smiling as she finally got some time off to enjoy a little time in the sun. She was sporting a very cool Robert Kennedy, Jr. 2024 hat!
How could you NOT go down Marsh Mallow Walk???
A short walk down a long pier
These birds are called Roseate Spoonbills, getting their pink colouring from a diet of shrimp and other crustaceans
Bev had never seen an alligator, so Dan was on a mission to find her one, as the signs around the island indicated that they were there!
In the end, it was Bev, herself, who discovered this alligator, as we were all admiring the pink birds, close to shore, trying very cleverly to disguise himself as a log.

Only picture missing to this perfect day was a picture of Jenny and the amazingly delicious scones she had baked, complete with whipping cream and fruit compote, and mimosas and were waiting for us when we arrived.
Can’t believe I did not take one!!!!
