The Fun

I know, I know, I’ve posted this picture three times now.  It’s no mistake.  
There was a lot of toasting going on and let’s face it, Bev was getting damn good at making Lemon Drop Martinis. 

From swimming in the ocean, to hiking and biking, reminiscing, exploring old cities, to tubing down the river, to solving at least half of the world’s and our own problems over a few drinks, I think the general consensus was we had fun.

Boarding the ferry to Dewee’s Island where we enjoyed a little piece of the ocean and an afternoon in the sun Hilda still managed to keep in touch with  her outside world despite being an attentive hostess. My husband wondered whether I was coming back or not … so little was I in touch with my outside world.  I try to disconnect when I’m on holidays.  The three amigos  It was a grand warm welcome to Dewee’s Island as Hilda’s son-in-law Dan arrived with his girls Amara and Ella in a golf cart to give us a tour of the island and transport us to the lovely cottage they had for the week. The Food

Great food and wine flowed freely on this holiday … my camera sadly was not at the ready to depict it all. What an idyllic dinner setting Hilda provided for us that first night, as we ate outdoors on her deck in the thick of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Candles were lit, and the cicadas chirped loudly as we dove into a delicious meal of butter chicken, while the wine and conversation flowed freely.   Corona with lime anyone?  I almost bought into the theory that there’s nothing better than a cold beer on a hot day … well at least if that day is 95 degrees F, which a lot of them were.  Hilda was the baker of this mammoth loaf of sourdough bread … and it was superb. She volunteers with an organization that bakes these delicious loaves for the homeless.  We virtually grazed off of this one loaf for the better part of the time we were there… and there appeared to be no end to it.  It made for some of the best crunchy toast and delicious sandwiches.  Crab cakes was...

Tour of Savannah

With many walking/hiking/biking miles put on our weary bodies, when we arrived in Savannah, which was the last leg of the trip, we decided a trolley tour as opposed to a walking tour of the city was in order … the heat and humidity really had not relented at all.  This was our first look at Gertrude as we stepped onto the trolley tour bus. Unaware at this point that she was our guide, but because of her attire, I asked if I could take her picture.  Gertrude proved to be our tour guide and got her “second wind” and gave us what I would say might possibly have been the best tour in all of Savannah.
